New Season, New Teams: Austria Edition

11.11.2024 - Austria

After the 2024 Olympics, a new chapter is unfolding in Austrian beach volleyball: with fresh partnerships and established duos, the groundwork is being laid for Los Angeles 2028. Fans can look forward to an exciting upcoming season, with new combinations and seasoned teams delivering thrilling matches and intense rivalries.

Austria’s top team and this year’s Olympic participants in Paris, Julian Hörl and Alex Horst, are ending their successful three-year partnership to pursue new challenges with different partners.

Four-time Olympian Alex Horst will take on a new role next season as a mentor alongside Laurenz Leitner. Together, they aim to bring out the best in each other’s strengths and grow as a team. Their next big target is the World Championships in Australia next year.

Moritz Pristauz and Robin Seidl are also moving in new directions as they prepare for the road to the 2028 Olympics. Despite injuries and a few setbacks, they look back on the past two seasons with both joy and nostalgia. Going forward, Moritz Pristauz will team up with blocker and Olympia participant Julian Hörl, fully focusing on the ambitious goal of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Robin Seidl will continue his beach volleyball career at the performance center in Klagenfurt.

Following Martin Ermacora’s injury-related retirement, Philipp Waller sought a new blocker and found a partner in Christoph Dressler. After a successful joint tournament at the Nations Cup Final in Jurmala, the newly formed duo looks confidently toward the coming season.

Due to Moritz Kindl’s knee injury, Mathias Seiser and Laurenc Grössig only teamed up as an interim duo for 2024, but they’ve decided to stick together next season to build on this year’s consistent performance and keep energizing beach fans with their commitment.

The young star team of Timo Hammarberg and Tim Berger will also stay together and continue to make waves in the beach volleyball scene next season, showcasing their talent. With successes like their win at the MASTERS in Innsbruck and a ninth-place finish at the Elite16 in Hamburg, their future looks promising.

The final new team configuration brings together Moritz Kindl and Paul Pascariuc, Laurenz Leitner’s former partner. With strong determination, the two look forward to new challenges and are confident they’ll be a team to watch.
