Highlights of the women's elite

22.07.2024 - Vienna

The A1 Beach Pro Vienna 2024 is just over a week behind us, and we can now reflect on the many beautiful impressions from the event.

The women's competition already held some surprises in the qualification rounds, as the German duo Ludwig/Lippmann, who won bronze on Danube Island last year, were eliminated by the American team Hildreth/Van Gunst in the second qualifying round. The Austrian teams, Friedl/Trailovic and Plesiutschnig/Schützenhöfer, also had to leave the tournament in the qualification phase.

On Wednesday and Thursday, July 10 and 11, the pool matches were held in the Red Bull Beach Arena and on the A1 Side Courts on Danube Island. In the Round of 12, the Austrian sister duo Klinger/Klinger managed to defeat the Spanish Álvarez/Moreno 2-1, fulfilling their dream of advancing to the quarterfinals of the A1 Beach Pro Vienna 2024! This success at the Elite16 tournament was a career highlight for the local duo. Less satisfactory was the result for the Latvians Tina/Anastasija, ranked eighth in the FIVB world rankings, who lost 0-2 in the first round of elimination to the experienced Brazilians Ágatha/Rebecca.

From the semifinals, the Swiss team Vergé-Dépré/Mäder emerged victorious against the Americans Cannon/Kraft, and the German duo Müller/Tillmann triumphed over the Brazilians Ágatha/Rebecca.

The podium of the A1 Beach Pro Vienna 2024 was an impressive conclusion to an exciting tournament, which took place in a sold-out Red Bull Beach Arena. Bronze went to the American team Cannon/Kraft, who prevailed after a thrilling match. Gold was claimed by Müller/Tillmann from Germany, who crowned the tournament with an outstanding performance. The silver medal went to the Swiss team Vergé-Dépré/Mäder, who, despite a strong performance, had to settle for second place in the final. The Brazilian team narrowly missed the podium, finishing in fourth place. Ágatha will retire at the end of the season, and we wish her all the best!

The A1 Beach Pro Vienna 2024 has once again proven why the city of Vienna is one of the highlights on the beach volleyball calendar. With thrilling games, surprising twists, and top-class finals, the tournament offered everything a beach volleyball fan could wish for.
