Cannon/Kraft claim Vienna bronze

13.07.2024 - Vienna

In a fast-paced match on equal terms, the favored Americans secure a podium finish at the A1 Beach Pro Vienna.

After an even start, Cannon/Kraft were able to extend their lead to five points at 9-4 with some spectacular balls and did not let it slip from their grasp until they won the set 21-16. In set number 2, Ágatha proved her skills time and again, but in the end the American duo Cannon/Kraft narrowly won 22-20 and secured the bronze medal in Vienna.

The duo isn’t new to tournaments on this level, as they have already competed at three other Elite16 tournaments this season, most recently earning them the silver medal in Gstaad. This placement is still an impressive result for the team that has only been competing together since last October, where they debuted at the Paris Elite16 tournament. They got together after Cannon’s former partner, Sarah Sponcil, switched to indoor volleyball.

Ágatha, who is 41, hinted earlier she would end her career after this season, so the A1 Beach Pro Vienna was likely the last time we had the honor of watching her play in the Austrian capital. She has an impressive career behind her, including a 2015 World Championship title and a Rio 2016 Olympic silver medal.
