We're into the men's quarterfinals! No time to rest, games are coming fast and furious, and the atmosphere in the Red Bull Beach Arena is hot (and not just because of the scorching sun)!
Chile's Marco and Esteban Grimalt were on fire early Saturday afternoon to secure their ticket to the semifinals of the A1 Beach Pro Vienna 2024, beating the Netherlands' Steven van de Velde and Matthew Immers 2-0 (21-17, 21-17).
And what a spectacular match! It was the Grimalts' second of the day, having played in the Round of 12 in the morning, although it ended with a Brazilian forfeit halfway through the second set.
Still, the Chileans showed no signs of fatigue. If anything, they seemed even more pumped. A powerful strike by Esteban Grimalt to take the first point set the tone for the match and some killer attacks deservedly won them the set.
It was the best that beach volleyball can offer and the crowd lapped it up. Nothing seemed to get past Marco Grimalt's blocks. Van de Velde/Immers, undefeated until now at this tournament, valiantly fought back but came up against a Chilean wall and finally had to declare defeat.
