Advantage in the first set passed back and forth before the US duo made a break for it and took the first point. The Swiss, unbeaten so far in this tournament, were not about to go down easy and hit back in the second set.
This was high-quality beach volleyball. Powerful spikes, superb blocking and narrow saves: each point was hard fought for until the very last second. But Vergé-Dépré/Mäder combined just a little better, with precision strikes and solid defending, to finally win the match. They will face Germany's Müller/Tillmann in the final.
