Klingers' farewell on a career high

12.07.2024 - Vienna

After a hard-fought and rain-soaked quarterfinal, Germans Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann get to move on to the next round of the A1 Beach Pro Vienna, beating home favorites Dorina and Ronja Klinger 2-0 (21-16, 21-19).

Play had been suspended for some time as the Red Bull Beach Arena was evacuated following a severe weather warning. Undeterred, the fans streamed back in as soon as they got word that the match was on and the rain-poncho-clad crowd produced a raucous atmosphere, cheering on the Austrians.

But Müller/Tillmann, bronze medallists at the 2022 World Championships, proved too strong in the end. Having won all three of their matches so far in this tournament, they took the lead and won the first set, despite the Klingers staying close behind every step of the way.

Some excellent rallies, good serving and solid nerves kept the sister duo in the running and they briefly went ahead at 8-7 in the second set before falling back again. It was a fight right up until the end but this marks the end of the road for Austria's number one women’s team at the A1 Beach Pro Vienna 2024.
