Beach star Martin Ermacora announces retirement

Innsbruck native Martin Ermacora is retiring from beach volleyball at the end of the 2024 season. Behind him lies a long and successful career.

A young Ermacora started playing indoor volleyball at the age of 10 before later switching to beach volleyball. In 2011, he competed for Austria at the U18 European Championships and a year later, he and his partner at the time finished fourth at the U19 World Championships.

Together with partner Moritz Pristauz, he really took off from 2015: The duo's greatest successes include a bronze medal at the European Championships in Moscow in 2019. Ermacora/Pristauz were also absolute fan favourites in Vienna and regularly brought the Red Bull Beach Arena to the boil, such as at the 2017 World Championships. They were also a permanent fixture on the World Tour for several seasons, and later also at FIVB Challenger tournaments. In 2022, they stood on the podium in both Doha and Espinho.

Ermacora has been playing with Philipp Waller on the national and international stage since 2023. For example, they finished fifth at the Edmonton Challenge and won gold on home soil at the Baden Futures, the Podersdorf Open and the MEVZA Innsbruck as well as silver at the Austrian National Championships.

Ermacora will compete one more time with Waller in Vienna - at the A1 Beach Pro Vienna 2024, which Ermarcora is already looking forward to. "It was pure ecstasy every year to be able to play in front of the home fans and I'm really looking forward to this year and hope that we'll get another full house and have a nice finish," he told us.*

*UPDATE: Due to an injury, Ermacora will unfortunately not be able to take part in the A1 Beach Pro Vienna after all. We wish him a speedy recovery and are still looking forward to his support as a spectator!

On behalf of ACTS we say:

Dear Martin, you have never shied away from going the extra mile: You not only stood up for the sport of beach volleyball itself and helped it gain more public exposure, but also always gave your all for your team partners - on and off the court. Not to mention the ambition with which you fought your way back after every injury.

It was always a pleasure to experience your passion for this sport live. We are already looking forward to giving you an unforgettable last Vienna tournament at this year's A1 Beach Pro Vienna. Dear Martin, you have definitely left your mark on the sand. With this in mind:

Goosebumps don't lie – See you @ the beach, whether as a beach star or a spectator!
