Böbner/Vergé-Dépré, Z. topped the podium at the Guadalajara Challenge women's tournament after beating Brazilians Agatha/Rebecca in two sets (21-12, 21-16). Currently ranked 19th in the world, the winners are in a tight race for a spot at the Olympic Games this summer, although two other Swiss duos ahead of them, Hüberli/Brunner ranked ninth and Vergé-Dépré/Mäder 16th, are keeping them on their toes. Similarly, Agatha/Rebecca, despite being ahead on rank #13, are still behind three other Brazilian teams, blocking their way to the city of lights. The bronze medal went to Canadians Bansley/Bukovec, who beat Germans Ittlinger/Borger in two sets (21-18, 21-14).
Germany's Pfretzschner/Winter dominated the semi-finals of the men's tournament, defeating the top seeds Evandro/Arthur with a clear 2-0 win (21-14, 21-16). In doing so, they secured their first medal on the Beach Pro Tour since joining forces last summer. Undefeated in the five matches they had played on their way to the Guadalajara final, they faced Americans Crabb/Brunner in the final and were ultimately beaten in three sets (12-21, 21-19, 15-12).
Crabb/Brunner are also aiming for a spot in Paris.. As they currently share 14th place in the world rankings with their compatriots Evans/Buddinger whilst Partain/Benesh are ahead of both of them in third place - together with the Czech duo Perusic/Schweiner - they must not rest on their laurels just yet. The bronze medal went to Evandro/Arthur, who beat Cubans Diaz/Alayo in a medal-match in the second Challenge tournament this season already, having defeated them only recently in the Recife Challenge final.
