Åhman/Hellvig win EuroBeachVolley once more

06.08.2023 - Vienna

Swedish youngsters write beach volleyball history with second EuroBeachVolley win in a row.

The 21-year old Swedes successfully defend their title at the A1 CEV EuroBeachVolley Vienna 2023. In the final match on Danube Island they set the golden final point with a confident 21:16, 21:18 victory against the Dutch Leon Luini/Yorick de Groot.

The Red Bull Beach Arena, once again filled to capacity, paid homage to the young beach stars: in just under 40 minutes, Åhman/Hellvig delivered the next sample of their incredible skills, leaving the Dutch Luini/de Groot, winners in the quarterfinals against Norwegians Anders Mol and Christian Sørum, not even a glimmer of a chance. The defense of their title from last year in Munich at the A1 CEV EuroBeachVolley Vienna 2023 was thus impressively successful.

Åhman/Hellvig, who have been going from one success to the next since 2022, had already experienced their drama in the semifinals: Against the Italians Cottafava/Nicolai, they fended off no less than five match points before they used their sixth to win 23:21 in the third set. In comparison, the final was a compulsory exercise, although Luini/de Groot did surprisingly well in the course of the tournament and, among others, eliminated the Austrians Hörl/Horst in the Round of 16. The 22-year-old Luini and his one-year older partner actually only form a team of opportunity due to injuries to their regular partners -and have now been awarded a silver medal!
