Pablo Herrera can add another European championship title and an Olympic silver medal to his achievements. The duo has been a team since 2009 and is hard to surpass in terms of experience.
Austria's top duo Hörl/Horst is playing its second season together this year and has already celebrated important international successes in recent weeks.
Alex Horst and Pablo Herrera are among the oldest participants at the A1 CEV EuroBeachVolley Vienna 2023.
Right from the start, the Spaniards take a significant lead due to their strong serving and a few lucky net rolls. Only at a score of 9:3 and with a service error from Herrera does Austria's top duo slowly find their way into the set. However, the Spaniards manage to maintain a lead of about 6 points throughout the rest of the set and win it 21:13.
In the second set, Hörl/Horst fight their way to an early lead and take control of the game after just a few rallies. In front of a full Red Bull Beach Arena, they stage a comeback and finish the set with 21:15.
Herrera/Gavira show strength in the decisive third set and lead for most parts of it, but they can't build a sufficient advantage. At 10:12, Hörl/Horst fight back and maintain the pressure on their opponents, winning the set and the match with 15:13!
The first day of the men's competition is now in the books. Hörl/Horst will face the winner of the match Luini/DeGroot (NED) and Sepka/Semerad (CZE) tomorrow.
