Although the starting places for the A1 CEV EuroBeachVolley Vienna 2023 are already fixed, the teams are still preparing for the tournament. Last weekend, the new Queens and Kings of the Court of Europe were crowned in Luxembourg, d'Coque.
The special thing about Queen & King of the Court is the modified game mode: five teams per group play simultaneously for the group victory. The teams stay on the side where points can be collected until they lose a rally. Serving takes place from the other side of the court, where the remaining teams rotate through. The team with the most points after the elapsed time (three rounds of 15 minutes each) advances.
In the women's competition, the reigning Latvian European Champions Samoilova/Graudina showed that they are once again a force to be reckoned with and finished ahead of Poland's Wachowicz/Gruszczynska, with whom they will be in pool G at the European Championships, and Germany's Tillmann/Müller. Germany's Lippmann/Ludwig and Austria's Klinger/Klinger, who we are looking forward to seeing at the A1 CEV EuroBeachVolley 2023 in Vienna, just missed out on the podium.
In the men's competition, the German top team Ehlers/Wickler took the golden podium with a remarkable average of 8 wins out of 9 rounds from the quarter-finals onwards. The other podium places went to Switzerland's Krattiger/Breer and Poland's Bryl/Losiak, who will also be present at the European Championships.
Apart from the sporting performance of the athletes, the focus was also on the European Volleyball Federation, the CEV, which celebrates its fiftieth birthday this year and makes events like the A1 CEV EuroBeachVolley Vienna 2023 possible. We wish them all the best!
The next big events will take place in Portugal, Switzerland and Canada before the beach stars finally come to Vienna to fight for the European Championship title!
