Seven women's and men's nations as well as the Austrian hosts qualified by their previous performances for the duel of nations, which will be held in the heart of Vienna from August 2 to 7, 2022. The entry list was announced today by the European Volleyball Federation (CEV) after the registration window for the A1 CEV BeachVolley Nations Cup closed yesterday, Monday. The respective top eight European nations in the men's and women's events will compete in Vienna for the title of European Champion of Nations. There will be a men's as well as a women's competition in Vienna, which is why the rankings of the genders are independent of each other. That is why partly different nations will compete in the men's and women's events.
In the men's event, Norway is unsurprisingly ranked first: With Anders Mol and Christian Sørum, the current European, World and Olympic champions, and the second seeded team of Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen, the Vikings were able to distance themselves from the Netherlands in second place with 5500 world ranking points compared to 5060 points. Italy will start the competition as the third seeded team. The host nation Austria will also be participating at the A1 CEV BeachVolley Nations Cup. After top performances, it was able to advance in the nation ranking and is now in fourth place with the equal number of points as Poland. The Czech Republic, Germany and Estonia complete the top eight nations competing in Vienna.
In the women's event, Switzerland leads the national ranking. After good results at the World Championships in Rome in June, the Swiss women have to compensate for the absence of Olympic bronze medalist Joana Heidrich. It remains exciting to see how the Swiss team will deal with this. Besides Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands are also among the top three nations in the women's event. All three nations travel to Vienna with good memories: With Hüberli/Brunner, Stam/Schoon and Borger/Sude all three nations stood on the podium at the A1 CEV Beach Volleyball European Championships last year. Italy and Latvia will also compete in the A1 CEV BeachVolley Nations Cup. Unfortunately, the Latvian men narrowly missed out on qualifying for Vienna, which will be all the more incentive for Graudina and Co. to present their nation well in Vienna. Also on the entry list are Spain and the Czech Republic, as well as the hosts from Austria, who were the eighth team to qualify for the Nations Cup on their own.
The drawing of lots will show how the nations will finally meet at the A1 CEV BeachVolley Nations Cup.
